UTD Wireless Setup
One of the more common questions we received at the School of Management tech support is: “How do I set up my laptop for the wireless connection?”. The University of Texas at Dallas has created step by step instructions on how to do this. Just go to:
http://www.utdallas.edu/ir/cats/network/airutd/winxp/index.html
Please be aware that you must have your net id and password already set up. If you do not have this, please contact the UTD Help Desk at x2911.
As always if you need help please feel free to stop by the SOM Help Desk at 1.201 or call us at x4483.

nice. what other questions do you get a lot? for my own knowledge, do people know how to use vpns when not on campus? do most students have their own laptops and desktops at home, or do they rely on school equipment? i’ve been asked about buying a mac vs. a pc. any thoughts there? and i want to know, why isn’t the wireless internet connection stronger in the mac lab? sure would come in handy.

Those are some good questions. VPN is a pretty straight forward set up but I have instructions for that. Most students have their own laptop or use the lab computers here in SOM.For why the wireless connection in the Mac lab isn’t that strong I would imagine it is because of how that building was made. Looking up at the ceiling I didn’t see very many access points. Likewise, do you know if your tech support has spoken to the wireless connection team on campus? I know we experienced a similar issue and they had to change some settings at the access points.
